You know, we like to place blame when things don't work out exactly as we plan. Our goal was Pappasitos Mexican Cantina, 6:15 pm. Before we left the house, Kevin Googled the restaurant. Great, he knew where we were going. Once we were in the car, I entered the restaurant into the GPS. Super! Now we could relax and let the British lady's voice lead the way. We were ready for a nice Mexican dinner with Pop. But the GPS couldn't figure out that we were on the tollway and kept telling us to merge and get off, then back on. And Kevin, being the good listener that he is, followed her instructions. Little did we know that we own an evil GPS, and she had it in for us this particular night...
After making us exit the tollway too soon, and requesting immediate turns with no streets in sight, she took us through the worst part of traffic on a busy highway and then had us do U-turns and more merging just to see us sweat! When Kevin finally had enough, he threw the GPS on the floorboard and grunted. All the while Isabella was singing and talking a top volume from her car seat. Now, you may already know that there is little you can do to control a three-year-old's volume. And we have learned that you should never tell them not to say a particular word again “or else,” while in a moving vehicle. Because very shortly thereafter you will be faced with having to institute the "or else" while accelerating onto a major thoroughfare. Three-year-olds, by nature, must impart their knowledge on their parents whenever they deem necessary. Moments such as these are no exception. When we finally arrived at the restaurant (40 minutes past the original ETA,) Isabella had a few words of wisdom for her father.
I: Daddy, Mommy drives better than you.
K: (silence)
I: Next time you sit where she is…
K: (more silence)
I: Mommy knows how to find parking lots for restaurants.
K: (turns toward me a grins slightly, shaking his head)
The girl’s got a point. So, needlessly to say, we gave him a hard time for the remainder of the night. Pop even offered to give him a 30 minute head-start to make it back home.
*The girls always enjoy Pop's visits, even if they may be short (the visits, not the girls-I know what you were thinking!)
